Where Life’s Lessons Are Shared Too Honestly for the Public Eye.

The Family Habit I Finally Dropped

In many families, people keep in touch. Calls, messages, visits — even small gestures — are the way love shows up. You check in when someone is sick. You ask how their day was. You show up for birthdays, anniversaries, and little everyday moments that, over time, become the threads holding relationships together. It’s not always perfect. There are misunderstandings and lapses. But the effort is usually there, and even if life gets busy, the connection never fully disappears.

In my family, things were different.

No one kept in touch. Not because of anger or conflict — there were no arguments, no confrontations. Life simply moved forward, and people quietly drifted apart. Relationships faded without explanation, without acknowledgement. You could feel the distance, but there was never a conversation to address it. No one said why they stopped calling or visiting: the reasons were left unspoken, buried under years of avoidance and silence.
