Yesterday was Mother’s Day in England. I hope you had moments of love, quiet joy, or even just a small break to yourself. Being a mother is not easy. In fact, it’s one of the hardest jobs in the world — full of long nights, endless responsibilities, sacrifices, and love that is given without expecting anything in return.
For single mothers, it can feel even heavier. You carry so much on your own — the bills, the work, the constant worry — yet you keep showing up, day after day, doing your best, even when it goes unnoticed, sometimes even unappreciated.
Sometimes children see what you do behind the scenes and appreciate it. Sometimes they don’t, because what you do is simply your job, the life you chose, and the life they are part of. They didn’t ask to be born, so they are entitled to their feelings, and that’s okay. Your worth doesn’t depend on their recognition. Remember that!
What truly matters is that you know, deep down, that you are doing your job as a mother to the best of your ability. Every late night, every effort, every sacrifice, every stumble and fall — you rise, you keep learning, you keep improving, you keep providing, you keep caring in the ways you can, because their happiness and wellbeing come before your own. And that makes you extraordinary. Remember that!
Even when it feels invisible, even when no one acknowledges it, your resilience, your dedication, and your unwavering love are building a foundation they may only fully understand later — perhaps when they become parents themselves, or when life gives them a glimpse of what it truly takes to do what you do every day.
You are doing one of the hardest jobs in the world, and that is something to be proud of. Remember that!
