There is No Place Like Home

Home is not just four walls and a roof

Home is more than a place we return to. It is the quiet sanctuary of the soul. It is where the spirit rests, where the heart feels safe, where the mind finally exhales without holding anything back. It is the space where we don’t need to perform, prove, or strive — only be. Home can be found in a physical space, yes, but also in the arms of people we love, in the rhythms of familiar routines, or even in the quiet moments we share with ourselves. It is the ground beneath our feet when everything else feels uncertain.

For me, home is a sacred anchor — a reminder that no matter how far I wander or how many paths I walk, there is always an embrace of love waiting for me. It is the place of laughter around the table, the silence of a familiar room, the paw-steps of a faithful dog, the presence of those who see me as I truly am. But more than this, home is something I carry within — a reminder that belonging is not something I must chase; it is something I already hold.

Although I miss Thailand, my routine there often felt hectic — full of movement and the constant buzz of life unfolding all around me. Being back home is such a contrast. Here, I feel a slower rhythm, one that gives me space to pause, breathe, and just be. Thailand will always hold a special place in my heart because it is my root — but home reminds me that peace doesn’t come from doing more; it comes from allowing yourself to simply live in the moment.

It reminds me of how deeply I love a peaceful life — and, truthfully, my life here is peaceful. I have my simple routines that bring me comfort: coffee in the morning as I slowly wake up, checking my emails, writing my eBooks, preparing my lessons. These small daily rhythms may not seem extraordinary, but they give me balance, purpose, and a sense of calm. It’s in these quiet, steady patterns that I feel most at home with myself.

And yet, as much as I cherish the calm I’ve found here, I carry a quiet hope within me: that one day I’ll discover this same sense of peace in Thailand too. Not just as a place I return to, but as a true home — a sanctuary where my roots and my rhythms can finally meet.

These moments of peace also make me think a lot about time. Being back home, I feel the rhythm of my days more clearly — slow mornings, steady routines, quiet evenings. Time here feel gentle, familiar. But in Thailand, I was reminded of how different time is experienced, spoken about, and lived.

That contrast is exactly why I’ve been working on my newest project: Thai Time Systems eBook. Over the years, I’ve noticed how many learners struggle with time in Thai — not because it’s inherently difficult, but because there are many ways to tell time in the language. This eBook designed to guide learners step by step, making the Thai time systems clear, practical, and, most of all, a reference you can come return to whenever they need a reminder. I hope it will give you the confidence to navigate time in Thai with ease. Keep an eye out for the announcement when it’s ready!
