Jon – Mastering Thai for His New Role in Thailand

Jon’s Thai language journey began when his organization, the National Crime Agency, arranged Thai lessons for him in preparation for his new position in Thailand. With only three months to learn, he needed a structured and intensive approach to gain the essential language skills required for his role. Through focused private lessons, Jon quickly developed his speaking and listening skills, allowing him to communicate effectively in professional and everyday situations. His dedication and determination helped him grasp key Thai phrases, cultural nuances, and essential vocabulary in a short period of time. Jon’s success is a great example of how targeted learning can help professionals adapt to new environments with confidence.

Jon says:

I began studying Thai ahead of moving to Thailand permanently. My company arranged for my lessons with Li. I studied each day, and in total I had more than 200 hours one-to-one tuition with Li, concentrating on speaking Thai as opposed to reading and writing. The first three months were tough. Li pushes you hard to get the basics, and the self-study and homework are critical if you are to progress. But it was after I visited Thailand for the first time that I realized Li had known exactly what she was doing in those though first three months. I found that I could speak and be understood in everyday situations, and was surprised how much I could understand of what was said to me, and what was going on around me. My wife was amazed! The rest of the study with Li was really enjoyable, and I am now living and working in Thailand. So if you are a serious student and want to learn Thai, then Li is the teacher for you. — Jon, NATIONAL CRIME AGENCY

Lucia’s success demonstrates the power of focused learning when preparing for an international move and shows how even a short but structured learning period can lead to great results.

Lucia says:

I started learning Thai because of my upcoming professional assignment in Thailand. I must admit that at the beginning I was not sure whether it would be worth the effort as it is such a different language from everything I know. Hannah – Learning Thai to Connect With the Locals While Travelling

Hannah has a love for travel — especially exploring the many beautiful regions of Thailand. But more than just sightseeing, she wanted to connect with the people she met along the way. That’s what led her to start learning Thai with me. From the beginning, Hannah was motivated by a simple but powerful goal: to be able to communicate with locals, ask questions, share smiles, and have real conversations beyond just tourist basics. She’s embraced the learning process with curiosity and an open heart — and it shows in how far she’s come.

Hannah says:

I started to learn Thai after I went to Bangkok in July 2013. Li had broken it down to the very basic to help me understand how sentences are structured before teaching me words. I have learned more through learning with Li than I did in school learning French for 5 years. Although, my memory can be a little unpredictable at times, Li is very patient and will go through the topic again or give hints to help kick start what is hidden in the back of my mind. I had a serious accident at work and Li made sure I’d learned before moving on. Li has become a good friend who I can confide in and I think vice versa. Her learning techniques have helped me do what I thought was impossible….learn a new language! Thank you. — Hannah, ENGLAND

Her journey continues to inspire, and her commitment to learning Thai is something to truly admire.

Tom – Proving It’s Never Too Late to Learn

Tom began his Thai language journey at the age of 67, with one clear goal in mind — to retire in Thailand and be able to communicate with the people around him. Even though he admits learning Thai doesn’t come quickly to him, what truly stands out is his commitment and determination to keep going, no matter the pace. Now happily retired and living in Thailand, Tom’s story is a wonderful reminder that age should never be a barrier to learning something new. His steady progress shows that with the right support and mindset, it’s absolutely possible to start a brand-new chapter — and enjoy every step along the way.

But Li is a fantastic teacher she has a great sense of humour and she makes learning a lot of fun but at the same time she is very serious about the language. I look forward to my lesson every week, I may be slow at taking it in but Li has all the patients in the world. I couldn’t ask for a better teacher. — Tom, THAILAND
