Coffee, Sunset, and the Perfect Pause from the Rhythm of Daily Life
I can’t believe it’s October already! This year seems to have flown by in the blink of an eye. When you’re writing, teaching, and creating, the days have a way of rolling into weeks, and the weeks quietly slip into months. Suddenly, here we are — with Christmas not too far on the horizon. As the weather begins to turn cooler and the mornings feel a little crisper, my mind drifts back to one of my favourite escapes in Thailand: จังหวัดระยอง (jāng-hwànd rá-yāwng = Rayong Province). There is something about this coastal gem that feels both peaceful and invigorating, a perfect pause from the rhythm of daily life.
I first discovered ปิยะรีสอร์ท (bpì-yá = Piya Resort) at หาดแม่รำพึง (hàad mâe rām-phēung = Hat Mae Ramphueng Beach) last year, and it left such a strong impression on me that I knew I had to return. This year, I went back, and as expected, it did not disappoint. Every visit feels like coming home. I can honestly say it’s a little slice of paradise. The resort itself strikes a perfect balance between comfort and simplicity — the kind of place where you can feel instantly at ease. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth and attention to detail that made every moment feel special.
The resort’s bungalow-style accommodations are clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. For me, they make every stay feel cosy and personal, like a little home away from home. Each bungalow features a private balcony with seating, creating the perfect spot to unwind while watching the world go by — whether it’s the gentle sway of trees, the distant waves lapping against the shore, or the soft glow of a sunrise painting the sky. It’s a quiet space where you can sip your morning coffee, lose yourself in a good book, or simply pause and soak in the peaceful rhythm of seaside life.
Just across the road from the resort, the soft sands of หาดแม่รำพึง (hàad mâe rām-phēung = Hat Mae Ramphueng Beach) are a few step away — perfect for morning walks, quiet reflection, or watching the sunset pain the sky in shades of orange and pink. The gentle sound of the waves, the warm sea breeze, and the serene atmosphere remind me why I’ll continue to make this resort a must-visit whenever I’m in Thailand.
The staff’s warmth and attentiveness add to the experience, making every stay memorable. It’s not just a place to rest; it’s a place to recharge, reconnect, and enjoy the small, precious moments that often get lost in everyday life.
One of my favourite spots near the resort is the little coffee cart just across the road. The coffee itself is simple and reasonably priced — nothing extravagant — but it’s the experience that makes it so special. I love visiting in the afternoon, grabbing a cup of coffee, and simply enjoying the gentle sea breeze. Sitting there, watching the waves roll onto the shore and feeling the cool, refreshing air, it’s a small moment of pure relaxation. There’s something magical about pausing for a while, letting the sound of the sea and the peaceful view fill your senses — it’s the kind of simple pleasure that makes a trip unforgettable.
Later in the evening, after watching the sunset, I like to take a short walk to another one of my favourite spots — a little food cart just outside 7-Eleven, only about five minutes from the resort. This is where I usually have my dinner, and I have to admit, I’m a creature of habit — I almost always go for ผัดกะเพราหมูสับกับไข่ดาว (phàd gà-phrāo hmǔu-sàb gàb khài dāow = Stir-fried minced pork with holy basil and fried egg). Yes, I’m faithful like that, lol!
The stall owner is friendly and very chatty, making it the perfect place to strike up a conversation and get a glimpse of local life. The area outside the shop tends to be busy with people at that hour, but it never feel crowded, which makes the whole experience relaxed and enjoyable. Sitting there, enjoying my simple but delicious meal, I feel completely immersed in the everyday rhythm of Rayong, and it’s moments like these that make the trip truly memorable.
To be honest, I’m not one for dressing up to go to posh restaurants or fancy hotels. I much prefer the simple life — the kind of experiences that feel genuine, unpretentious, and grounded. That’s why I love Rayong.
There are other places nearby that are worth visiting too, but I’ll save those stories for another post. For now, I just wanted to share this little gem with you.
As I look back on my visits, I realise that it’s the simple moments — the gentle sea breeze, the sunset over the soft sands, the friendly chats at the local food cart — that stay with you the most. Rayong, definitely has a way of slowing time, letting you breathe, and reminding you of life pleasures. It’s a place I’ll continue to return to whenever I’m in Thailand, and I hope that one day, you get to experience its quiet charm for yourself.
As always, thank you for reading and letting me share this little gem of a place with you. Have a great day, and I’ll see you in the next post.
With all my heart, 💛 — Urai
