Where Life’s Lessons Are Shared Too Honestly for the Public Eye.

A Cold, a Rainy Day, and a Gentle Reminder

The weather has turned again. It was so nice last week — bright skies, a little warmth in the air, the kind of days that lift your mood without you even realising it. For a moment it almost felt like spring had truly arrived.

But now it’s miserable again.

As I’m sitting here writing this post, it’s raining outside. The sky is grey, the sort of heavy grey that seems to stretch across the whole day. The rain has been falling steadily, tapping against the windows and soaking everything outside. It’s the kind of weather that makes the world feel a little slower and a little quieter.

Days like this always seem to change the rhythm of things.

Maybe it’s the darker skies, or the sound of rain, or simply the way cold air settles into the day. Whatever it is, these kinds of days often make me want to pause for a moment. To slow down. To stay indoors with a warm drink and take things a little more gently.

At the moment, I’m also full of a cold and cough, so the weather seems to match exactly how I’m feeling.

It’s nothing serious — just one of those ordinary colds that leave you feeling foggy, a bit tired, and not quite like yourself. The sort that reminds you your body would really prefer a slower pace for a few days.

And if I’m honest, I think many of us need those reminders sometimes.

We live in a world where we are constantly moving. There is always something to do, somewhere to be, another responsibility waiting for us. It’s very easy to get used to pushing through everything — tiredness, stress, even illness — because we fee like we should keep going.

But the body has its own way of asking for care.

Sometimes it whispers quietly through tiredness.
Sometimes it asks through stress.
And sometimes it simply sends us a cold and tells us to rest.

Over the years, I’ve realised that self-care rarely looks the way we imagine it. It’s not always the big gestures people talk about — long holidays, spa days, or dramatic lifestyle changes.

More often, self-care is quiet.

It’s making a cup of tea and sitting down for five minutes.
It’s choosing to rest when your body is tired.
It’s stepping away from something that can wait until tomorrow.
It’s allowing yourself a slower day without feeling guilty about it.

These small moments of care often matter more than we realise.

On rainy days like today, it almost feels like the world is giving permission for that slower pace. The streets are quieter, people stay indoors a little more, and everything seems to soften around the edges.

Maybe that’s why I don’t mind days like this as much as I used to. They remind me that slowing down isn’t always a bad thing.

Sometimes we need to pause.
Sometimes we need the quiet.
Sometimes we need a moment to take of ourselves before we continue moving forward again.

So today, as the rain keeps falling outside and I sit here with a warm drink and a box of tissues nearby, I’m choosing to take things a little more gently.

And if you happen to be reading this while feeling tired, run down, or simply overwhelmed by life lately, consider this a small reminder.

Take a breath.
Make yourself something warm.
Give yourself permission to slow down, even if just for a little while.

The world will still be there when you’re ready.
